Copiso achieves the goal of commercializing one million pigs and its turnover exceeds 300 million for the first time

The members of Copiso approved—at the 2025 General Assembly held on May 30—the management and financial results of a “very positive” 2024 fiscal year, according to the cooperative’s president, Rubén Carramiñana. The cooperative continues to grow, reaching the milestone of one million pigs marketed and surpassing, for the first time, €300 million in revenue. The creation of new affiliated companies, an “extraordinary, almost historic” grain campaign, lower input costs, and favorable pork prices contributed to these strong results.

Revenue

Copiso’s total business volume, including the proportional revenue from its affiliated companies, reached €303,741,775 in 2024—an increase of 10.75% over the previous year. For the first time, the €300 million threshold was exceeded. Of the total, €208,344,956 corresponds to the cooperative itself, and €95,396,819 to its affiliated companies.

Animal Feed

The Valcorba plant produced 281,467,470 kilograms of feed in 2024, an increase of 15,533,800 kilograms (5.84%). Additionally, 133,064,000 kilograms were supplied from other facilities, bringing the total feed production for the Copiso group to 414,531,470 kilograms.

Swine Sector

Copiso and its affiliated companies sold a total of 1,002,468 pigs in 2024, a 2% increase over the previous year. This includes 951,362 fattening pigs and 51,106 breeding sows.

By managing the entire production and commercial cycle—including raw material production and feed manufacturing—the Soria-based cooperative operates with high efficiency and competitiveness, despite the sector’s challenges, positioning itself in the upper-mid range of the Spanish pork industry.

Copiso’s livestock activity, at the group level, is well-established and closely linked to agricultural development. Both sectors—livestock and agriculture—complement and reinforce each other, covering the entire value chain through an exemplary cooperative model built by Copiso’s members through years of dedication and commitment to the Soria countryside.

Grains and Oilseeds

In the 2024–2025 campaign, members delivered 217,310 metric tons of grain—double the previous year’s harvest. In oilseeds, 17,730 metric tons of sunflower were marketed in autumn 2024 (a 14% increase). Additionally, 3,370 metric tons of rapeseed (up 274.4%) and 1,175 metric tons of safflower (up 186.6%) were collected.

Fertilizers

Fertilizer sales in 2024 totaled 38,148 metric tons, a 21.29% increase over the previous year.

Employment

As of December 2024, Copiso employed 156 people—six more than the previous year. The cooperative remains committed to employment in the province, generating hundreds of additional indirect jobs through its activities.

Financial Structure and Surplus

Copiso reported net profits of €17,080,363 in 2024. The assembly approved the distribution of €4,904,175 in cooperative returns to members for compound feed and grain marketing activities, in addition to surplus revenue paid as price supplements for supplies and products marketed during the year. As of December 31, 2024, equity stood at €69,468,872—an increase of 27.56% over the previous year.

Investment

Copiso invested €5,924,960 in 2024 to improve its facilities in the province and enhance services for its members.

Renewable Energy

The cooperative has installed approximately 2,800 kilowatts of photovoltaic energy and 950 kilowatts of purithermal energy across its logistics centers and farms. Additionally, the Valcorba plant uses a biomass boiler to heat water for feed production. Combined, the biomass boiler and photovoltaic system at Valcorba reduced emissions by 2,272 tons of CO₂e in 2024.

Research and Development

Copiso is currently engaged in seven multi-year research, development, and innovation projects, with a self-funded budget exceeding one million euros. These projects aim to enhance competitiveness and profitability while maintaining a strong commitment to environmental sustainability and animal welfare. Research areas include energy, digitalization, organic fertilization, nutritional strategies, genetic selection, and animal management. Some projects are self-financed, while others are co-funded by public institutions, companies, or universities.
