Around 40 Copiso cattle farmers will hold an informational meeting on February 10 with the Salamanca-based cooperative Dehesa Grande, which specializes in the sale of beef. The aim of this Copiso initiative is to facilitate and offer its members another option for selling the calves they produce.
In this case, Copiso is simply acting as a bridge and contact between the marketer and the farmer, without any other type of business relationship with Dehesa Grande. The characteristics and small-scale beef production of Copiso’s members do not allow the Soria-based cooperative to set up its own marketing structure. The idea for the meeting, which will take place at Copiso’s headquarters, arose at an Urcacyl forum where the possibility of collaboration was raised.
Dehesa Grande is a cooperative with more than 600 members, representing more than 40,000 cows. The members belong to five first-degree cooperatives in the provinces of Salamanca and Zamora. These are Consorcio de Promoción del Ovino, Fuentevacuna, Ganavaex, Campo Vacuno, and Carne Natural de Ledesma. Since 2017, Dehesa Grande has been a priority cooperative society, and in 2024 it had a turnover of €68 million. The meat products are sold in the cooperative’s own online store, in a network of franchised butcher’s shops located in different parts of Spain, and in some large supermarkets.
