The Copiso Environmental Impact management model is taken to university

Carmen Yagüe, Head of Environment and Social Responsibility at Copiso, has brought the Soria-based cooperative’s Environmental Impact management model to the university. Specifically, to students studying for a degree in Agricultural and Energy Engineering at the Duques de Soria Campus of the University of Valladolid (UVa).

On Wednesday 17, Carmen Yagüe gave a lecture on what Environmental Impact is in the agri-food industry, its management and control, in order to protect natural resources and people’s health, and to avoid damage to the environment and possible sanctions. The work carried out at the Copiso feed factory was the reference point for the talk.

The type of environmental impact, assessments, integrated environmental authorization (IEA), and mitigation measures were among the topics discussed. Carmen Yagüe emphasized the need to prevent and control industrial pollution in a comprehensive manner in order to safeguard sustainability, which is one of the commitments of the Soria-based cooperative in its ten principles.

The conference given by Copiso’s head of the Environment is part of the AGRIDIA teaching innovation project, coordinated by Cristina Gómez and Beatriz Águeda. It is an initiative aimed at strengthening the connection between the university and the professional sector in agricultural and forestry degrees. To this end, “we organize seminars with professionals from the sector, create open educational resources, and work on key cross-cutting skills to improve student motivation and employability,” said Beatriz Águeda.
